Ships In the Night
Ships in the Night was a lot more free in terms of the sound that I was able to sculpt. Using the techniques I learned in my Electroacoustic Composition classes, I was able to create new effects to heighten tension in this thriller using noises more along the sound design route more than traditional composition.
I learned from some of the mistakes I made when scoring Out of Time and made sure to use silence as a tool compositionally to allow places for the viewer to breathe and relax rather than always be on edge the entire time. As well, I was able to explore more of the plugins and effects that Ableton Live 11 was able to offer to help sculpt some of the noises and sounds that aided in creating the scene.
Synopsis: Ships in the Night is about a young girl looking for a way to get home after a lost camping trip. She finds a driver willing to get her back but hopes to make it back all in one piece.
