Backend Internship at Illinois Rocstar

This internship at Illinois Rocstar was focused primarily on developing the QuantumEspresso tool for SimVerse. Crystallography and Solid State Physics researchers would use this tool to create scalable simulations in the cloud investigating the electronic structure of many-body systems.

• Implemented Red-Green test driven development workflow for a Django REST framework codebase using GitLab CI/CD

• Integrated backend development with cloud architecture such as Docker and AWS to optimize performance regardless of environment

• Proposed workflow improvements upon the current development through AGILE methodologies through leading a process meeting

• Stayed flexible to learn and develop for the Frontend Team using React.js and Material-UI when resources needed to be reallocated

• Documented and tested backend using mock data and requests through OpenAPI and Swagger

The tech stack also includes Aiida to maintain Data Provenance and the flow of data throughout the QuantumEspresso simulation.
